Kasetsart Sriracha and the Royal Society of Thailand Host National Academic Forum
Kasetsart University Sriracha Campus and the Royal Society of Thailand Host National Forum on Agricultural and Forestry Crisis, Preparing Policy Proposals for the Government to Strengthen National Food Security
On 11 February 2026, Kasetsart University Sriracha Campus, in collaboration with the Academy of Science, the Royal Society of Thailand, the Faculty of Fisheries, and Kasetsart University Research and Development Institute, organized a national academic forum entitled “The Future of Thai Agriculture, Fisheries, and Forestry under the Climate Change Crisis.” The event was held at PAK PI-RUN Hotel, Kasetsart University Sriracha Campus.
The event opened with welcoming remarks by Dr. Damrong Sripraram, Acting President of Kasetsart University, who also delivered a special lecture titled “The Status of Biodiversity Change.” The lecture provided foundational knowledge and a broad overview of the biodiversity crisis, which is a critical underpinning for understanding the deeper discussions on climate impacts that followed.
Subsequently, Emeritus Professor Dr. Savitree Limtong, Chair of the Academy of Science, the Royal Society of Thailand, presented a report outlining the background and objectives of the forum, emphasizing the importance of collecting empirical evidence to synthesize actionable policy frameworks. The opening ceremony was officially presided over by Professor Wiboon Leesuwan, Vice President of the Royal Society of Thailand.
The academic program commenced with a keynote address by Associate Professor Dr. Witsanu Attavanich, Qualified Member of the Office of the National Economic and Social Development Council, on the topic “Thai Agriculture, Fisheries, and Forestry: Turning Risk into Opportunity in an Era of Global Boiling.” This was followed by expert presentations on plant genetic solutions by Professor Dr. Apichart Vanavichit., and strategies to address pest and disease outbreaks driven by global warming by Professor Dr. Theeraphap Chareonviriyaphap.
Kasetsart University Sriracha Campus: The Leader in Innovation of the Eastern Region.
A key highlight of the forum was a presentation by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nattapon Chantarapanich, Dean of Faculty of Engineering at Sriracha, entitled “The Role of Kasetsart University Sriracha Campus and the Eastern Sustainable Agriculture Innovation Center in Addressing Climate Change.” The presentation showcased the university’s vision of applying advanced agricultural engineering technologies to enhance sustainable production systems within the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC), particularly in response to drought and climate variability.
The forum concluded with a panel discussion titled “Pathways for Thai Agriculture, Fisheries, and Forestry under the Climate Change Crisis,” moderated by Professor Dr. Uthairat Na-Nakorn, featuring distinguished panelists from the Department of Fisheries, the Department of Livestock Development, the Faculty of Forestry, and the Thai Chamber of Commerce.
